EmbroideryStudio e4 and below: Those versions of genuine Wilcom software require a dongle to use the software. All Wilcom dongles are supplied with an Access Code to activate them. Wilcom International Pty Ltd issues these Access Codes and validates a legal dongle.

EmbroideryStudio Digital Edition, 2025, and 2026: They will require either a hardware dongle or a valid digital licence. You can contact Wilcom to verify if the dongle/licence is legitimate and active before purchasing.

The most common way for illegal Wilcom software to be distributed is when illegal copies are made and distributed in packaging that replicates the genuine Wilcom packaging. Counterfeit registration cards with unauthorised serial numbers are often included in these packages.
